White fragrant flowers in spring give away to crispy juicy pears in August,
Harvest the fruit in mid August when the pears still have some green coloring on them with a hint of red.You will then be able to store these up to two months.
To speed up ripening place fruit in a paper bag at room temperature.
To determine ripeness, hold the pear in the palm of your hand and then gently apply pressure into the neck of the pear with your thumb. Once the skin of the pear gives to that pressure it is ripe and ready to eat.
